The two main DLC for DA2 are pretty lengthy and done really well, nothing short like Return to Ostagar. I usually save Legacy towards the end of the game since there's an optional boss which is easier when your party is higher level.
Legacy also offers some nice gear which I like to use in end game as well. Tabledit Mac Serial Number. IMO, It's a bit harder than MotA so I like to be prepared with more skills. I like to play Mark of the Assassin after I lock in the romance (sometime in Act 3 depending on when it activates for you) since there's some nice LI specific dialogue. Not sure if this triggers if you only start the romance since I've ever done it in Act 3, but I also wanted to be prepared since one of the fights involved me just running around in circles and kiting even when I was relatively high level lol.
* As with most of my reviews, I’m going to try and keep this as spoiler free as possible. There will be some spoiler material, however, because it’s unavoidable if I’m talking about playing the DLC. To begin, I was lukewarm on Dragon Age 2. The only reason I mention this is so that you understand where my review is coming from.
I didn’t hate the sequel, but there were a lot more things I disliked over the handful of things I didn’t like in Origins. If you want to know more about that,. Because of that, I was very leery about Legacy because I do regret the money I spent on a preorder for DA2. Spending another $10 or so for a DLC was a big deal to me because I don’t play the game anywhere near as much as Origins and I didn’t like it as well. That said, Legacy pleasantly surprised me. It was actually more like a small piece of what I expected DA2 to be when I bought it. Evidently Bioware must have gotten tired of hearing the complaints about recycled maps, because unlike the DLCs for Origins, this had no obvious recycling.
I can’t swear it didn’t happen somewhere, but if it did, it wasn’t glaringly obvious. The material was either completely new or nearly so. I took a level 20 mage Hawke, Varric, Carver, Anders and summoned dog in my group. For people who play for battles, there was a lot of stuff to kill along the way. If the difficulty was cranked up higher, I have no doubt it would present a challenge. There were completely new creatures along with a new final boss. These creatures all had new models and new attacks, so they were even a step up from the Children in Awakening.
They used the same attacks as werewolves and some of the other creatures from previous games. Reckoning had something which was completely new. The final boss also had some more or less unique attacks which made it nicely difficult, even in the easiest setting. If you find that it’s too hard, there’s a place where you can exit it back to your vanilla game and return later, as well. There were 2 major puzzles and one minor one which was another return to previous releases from Dragon Age. There are also places where you have to find certain components to complete a side quest (like Awakening to get the powers of the Architect. We had to find the crystals and put them in the sockets.) The puzzles themselves were more difficult than moving the barrels around at random in the Fade.
I’m absolutely terrible at puzzles and a grade school child could probably do better at puzzles than I do, so I got stuck in Reckoning. Ontario Driver Licence Number Generateor here. This is actually a positive sign for people who are actually good at them because the barrels in the Fade for DA2 never posed any kind of problem. That might be dumb luck, but I had to YouTube the puzzles for Reckoning or I’d be there for the rest of my natural life.
I really am just that bad, yes. There was a lot of dialog, both ambient and interaction on the wheel, following more along with DA2’s style. There’s also replay value because there’s more than one way the DLC can end. Much like Awakening, you have a point where you can choose option A or option B. Which you pick will determine how it ends, so unless you save constantly, it’s worth at least two full play throughs.
I didn’t time myself on how long it took me to go through it, particularly because of puzzles, but it seemed longer than the average Origins DLCs which took me 1-2 hours to play. The graphics were top notch and stunning, on par with DA2 or possibly a little bit better with the High Resolution texture packs and a good video card. As for the story, it was decent.
There are some interesting revelations to the lore of the world as well as to your Hawke along the way. Although I wouldn’t call it gripping, it was fun and interesting. Being a DLC, I’m willing to give it some slack in that department, but I still personally found it a step up from most of the storyline in DA2. Overall, this was a purchase I don’t regret.
If you like DA2 at all, I think it’s worth the cover price. ======================================================== Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age II and all characters belong to Bioware.
