First, I want to say that Windows 7 is probably the best OS I've used to date (I use OS X at work, used Ubuntu for quite a while, and used all versions of Windows from 3.1). Now the problem- I occasionally do some music production, but I can't get the drivers for my MultiMix8 to install. They work in Vista/XP, but will not work in 7 even if I use compatibility mode / run as admin. I've tried installing the legacy firewire drivers, and still no go. I was just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar issue, and if they were able to get it resolved.

I have a MiltiMix12 FireWire. I had everything running on Vista64 with the new 64 bit driver and it was working, but I was getting audio dropouts constantly (even after trying all settings and other recommendations). So I installed Windows 7 64 bit in hopes that my frequent audio dropouts would go away.

I get the same problem as you are experiencing, with no sound. I haven't had any problems installing other device drivers or software that was written for Vista, so this is a bit of a surprise to me. I hope it isn't too difficult for Alesis to tweak the drivers to run on Windows 7. I too bought a Multimix 8, last spring, then I had to wait a few months to buy a faster computer because mine was too slow to run the Firewire lines, Then, because it's 64 bits I couldn't get it to work, not in Vista it wouldn't, and everyone's big fix suggestion, get Win 7, a total of about 8 months went by before I got the upgrade disk, on about November 24th 2009, and it still won't work. What I found out is, Microsoft in its infinite wisdom changed all the rules for Firewire drivers in Win 7; I only know that because I stumbled onto the White paper they posted online.

And Alesis isn't going to be fixing anything any time soon. As they wrote to me back in November it could be a year, ore more, before they fix the 64 bit driver for Vista, Win 7, forget it,maybe never they actually called me stupid for doing the upgrade, even though it was at their suggestion. They are also claiming it's too expensive to write new drivers, something about the hefty Fees M$ demands for each one, I guess they are NOT looking for any new customers with new computers. From the way they are acting, like this whole problem suddenly appeared one morning right out of the blue. I would say they have few intentions of being an up to date company. Well they are the only company, out of all the things I that plug into the computer, that has not written new drivers for 64 bit Win 7 machines, Then I found out they stopped selling the multimix 8, pulled it from the stores, which to me says a ton about their future intentions. I asked them if they would either extend my warranty until such a time as they made it usable to me, or just give me a refund.

A big fat NO was their reply. I am soooo 100% disappointed in Alesis, the worst customer care and lack of service I have ever seen in my life. And I'm not all that happy with Win 7 either, all the things it's missing, they are now pushing this next idea of Gates, that no one will have any software on their own computer, that we will all go online and use it off their server. But how long until they start charging a monthly fee for that?

I prefer to have my own everything on my own drives, how else can I keep any kind of control and keep prying eyes out of it? I too was chastised by phone tech support for upgrading to Win7. I seldom get upset with tech support - but this really set me off.

I told him that I had no problem with him telling me that Alesis didn't have drivers, yet - but he had absolutely no business telling me that I should have upgraded my OS. (And by the way, after 4 months, my observation is that Win7 is an excellent OS, on par with WinXP SP2.) For as brief as it was, it was the worst tech experience I have ever had. Beyond this, my Alesis Multi-mix 8 Firewire is gathering dust and I'm really not happy about it.

I have installed the latest 64-bit drivers (obviously not Win7 drivers) and the install goes fine, but as soon as I turn on the mixer I immediately get the BSD - every time. The only solution is to try to find my old installation CD for Vista, partition my disk for dual boot, try to get the thing activated, etc. How is Alesis going to be able to continue to market computer-connected hardware if they don't keep up with the drivers. I have never run into another company that doesn't have most drivers out before the OS release. I have had a similar problem. Previously I used my multimix8firewire on my vista machine, but when trying to set it up for my new windows 7 64bit machine, I encountered a blue screen. Instant crash, my first crash on windows 7.

I guess ill still be using my old laptop for sound and then sending it over to my new machine. So yes, I have no solution either, I had downloaded the latest drivers (for vista and XP) and followed the instructions only to get a blue screen. For anyone thinking of buying this mixer for use on a windows 7 64 bit set up, the simple answer is don't.

Guess im joining the club. Heres the deal i got the multimix 8 firewire and ive read in a different forum to upgrade to firmware v2.0 ( an old upgrade for windows xp, my mixer is over 6 yrs old. ) but i cant get that to go through. All the versions of software on the net posted by alesis dont seem to flow with all my pcs. ( newest is win 7 & OS and i have older ones with XP SP2 and XP SP3 ) i can run XP with the original install disc but none of the updates on thier site work. I keep getting a firmware error and the program doesnt allow for me to change the bit rate and sample type. Thus not allowing my acid program to allow the settings.

Sirius 1.0 Astrology Software more. Issue is their program dosnt let me controll the mixer! I got a call in to them at the moment i will post anthing i can find to help u out. I love my mixer its been good to me, i hope to ____ they figure this out.
